Annamalai is a drama based on the lives of two men stretching over three generations and is told against a backdrop of Singapore before and during the Japanese occupation and after that. Central theme simply put, suggests that ‘Old sins have long shadows’. In this sense, it is a multi-layered drama which is both about people and the place they call home-Singapore. Annamalai, the series, highlights the plight of our pioneers and their determination in facing challenges. It helps youths get a perspective of our social, economic and political realities in the early days. It emphasises the need to be mindful of right and wrong when faced with choices. It examines the notion of forgiveness when wronged.
